Motion
03:44
|

If I was drifting in outer space
No gravity keeping me in place
Well I could move at a constant pace
I’d be in motion
But if I was acted on by a force
It could change my speed and alter my course
And I would do the same to them in reverse
I’d be in motion
We are in motion
Standing on a planet that’s in motion
Moving round a star that’s in motion
Part of a galaxy in motion
We are in motion
And if you’re moving to the left
Or moving to the right
If you’re sleeping in your bed
Or if you’re dancing all night
We are in motion
Part of a Universe in motion
If you knew my trajectory
And you could measure my velocity
Well you could calculate where I’ll be
Motion is change in position over time
If I’m going fast, my velocity is high, but
If it looks like I am standing still to your eye
A body in motion will tend to stay in motion
A body at rest will tend to stay at rest
Force is equal to the mass of a body
Multiplied by the acceleration of the body
When a body exerts a force on another body
The other body exerts the same force in the opposite direction

Electromagnetism

We know all matter’s made of atoms but what holds them together?
What binds the molecules in objects and makes them feel solid?
And what gives everything around us all the different colours
Let’s go on a journey of electromagnetic knowledge!
Think about this fact:
Particles with the same charge will repel and with the opposite charge they'll attract
Electromagnetism
Electromagnetism
Electromagnetism
Seems like magic but it’s science
Positive and negative attraction
It’s a fundamental interaction
Studying the universe in action
Using science
Just like the sun’s gravity keeping the planets in motion
Inside an atom the protons pull the electrons in the shell
But unlike gravity, which only ever pulls things together
Particles with the opposite charge will attract but with the same charge they will repel
When atoms get excited, they start to send out
Electromagnetic vibrations
We call it light or gamma rays or maybe radio waves
Based on the frequency of oscillation

Particle

One day I started shrinking to a microscopic size
And all the objects that had seemed so solid to my eyes
Looked different at this level and just then I realized
That it’s all made up of particles
It’s all made up of particles
I saw molecules just like the kind that make up me and you
And they were made of atoms doing things that atoms do
And they were made of protons, neutrons, and electrons too
It’s all made up of particles
Down to the molecules
Down to the atoms, the elements
Down to the protons and electrons
Everything’s made of particles
Down to the quarks and the bosons
At the quantum level
Everything’s made of particles
I approached the quantum level and I still was shrinking fast
Saw the quarks that make up matter and the bosons with no mass
I wondered if I’d keep on shrinking or this level was the last
If it’s all made up of particles
I found it most peculiar that these phenomena behave
In some ways like a particle, in others like a wave
And maybe on some level they are really just the same
If everything is particles and everything is waves
Then I returned to normal size and pondered where I’d been
How rocks and trees the air we breathe and even you and me
Are all made up of building blocks too tiny to be seen

Wave

Why don’t we wave our arms in front of us together, like they’re floating on the water
Let’s bring them down and to the left, and up and to the right, then back the other way
If you calculate the distance between the furthest left and furthest right
What you’re measuring is the wavelength of the wave
Pretend the water’s getting choppier, and your arms are bobbing further down and further up
Let’s bring them way way down and bring them way way up, and then we do the same
If you calculate the distance between the highest and the lowest points
What you’re measuring is the amplitude of the wave
Everything is waves
Everything is waves
Everything is waves
Everything is waves
And waves
Go up and down
And side to side
They’re all around
The sound we hear
The light we see
Matter and energy
You know that everything is waves
Why don’t we make our waves go a little faster now
Let’s bring them down, and up, and down, and up, then back the other way
If you calculate how many waves you do for every bar of this song
What you’re measuring is the frequency of the wave
I found it most peculiar these phenomena behave
In some ways like a particle, in others like a wave
And maybe on some level they are really just the same
If everything is particles and everything is waves

Matter

When you are brand new your eyes are wide
Each day you’re growing, your cells divide
Metabolizing the energy
You’re made of matter and you matter to me
I’ll try to teach you what you need to know
Give you the care that you need to grow
You’re growing every day, it’s fascinating to see
You’re made of matter and you matter to me
Sometimes you might be sad or lonely
Somedays you laugh and some days you cry
But even in the hardest moments
It’s wonderful that you’re alive
And when the sun shines you run and play
Or in the night time after a busy day
You are a marvel of biology
You’re made of matter and you matter to me
I’ll give you food you may not always like
I’ll give you guidance, I may not always be right
I’ll give you love times infinity
You’re made of matter and you matter to me
As you get older, you continue to change
Each day the world seems a little less strange
I hope you’re always fascinated by the mystery
You’re made of matter and you matter to me
Sometimes you might be sad or lonely
Somedays you laugh and some days you cry
But even in the hardest moments
It’s wonderful that you're alive
And when the sun shines you run and play
Or in the night time after a busy day
You are a marvel of chemistry
You’re made of matter and you matter to me
But even in the hardest moments
It’s wonderful to be alive
And if the sun shines you run and play
Or in the night time after a busy day
I hope you’re always fascinated by the mystery
Cuz it’s a marvel just to be a human being
You’re made of matter and you matter to me
